NWiPR Inspires Students to Think Strategically About Their Career

The Nigerian Women in Public Relations (NWiPR) reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing the next generation of communications professionals at the recent PR students summit hosted for students of the University of Ibadan, which held virtually on Friday, September 26, 2025.

In partnership with Unicaf Nigeria, the summit provided a platform for learning, mentorship, and practical insights on building a successful career in public relations and communications. Participants had the opportunity to learn directly from seasoned PR professionals, Pelumi Pearce and Praise Adio, who shared real-world experiences and strategies for thriving in the industry.

Speaking during the session, Sylvia Atanasova, International Marketing Manager, Unicaf Nigeria, urged students to be deliberate about their career journey even before graduation. Your future is within your reach, but only if you choose to invest in yourself today. Your circumstances don’t define you; your choices do. Start thinking, be strategic, to increase your chances of achieving your dreams,” she added.

The undergraduates were encouraged to embody confidence. Boldness is essential in the workplace. When it comes to ideation, sometimes your ideas might not be perfect, but don’t be shy to voice them. Speak, share, and keep thinking on your feet. Consistency equals growth,” said Pelumi Pearce, Lead Media Strategist, Flash Media.

In her presentation, Praise Adio, a brand storyteller and communications coach, spoke on the importance of clarity and confidence when communicating ideas.

“Your job is to know how to present your idea or vision clearly, whether to your client, brand manager, or boss. Communicate in a way that helps them see the value of what you’re proposing,” she advised.

The summit ended with an interactive Q&A session where students engaged with the speakers, gaining insights into personal development, professional branding, and navigating the evolving PR landscape.

Through initiatives like the PR Students’ Summit, Nigerian Women in Public Relations continues to strengthen its mission of promoting excellence, visibility, and professional growth for Nigerian women in PR and communications—both at home and in the diaspora.
