Nigerian Women in Public Relations, during the fifteenth edition of its virtual Public Relations Students on Campus Summit, urged aspiring PR professionals to develop requisite skills that prepare them for a career in Public Relations. The summit was held for students of NTA Television College, Jos.

Dorcas Adebayo informed the undergraduates about Nigeria women in PR, its programmes and how it supports youths and women to achieve their career growth with required resources and platforms, she also encouraged the students to start practising Public Relations early and harness the vast opportunities of the profession 

Speaking at the PR Students on Campus Summit, Stella Okos-Iboje introduced other programmes for students including the ambassadorship program for female undergraduates enthusiasts to engage them in each tertiary institution in Nigeria. In these institutions, each cluster Student Ambassador group will support the organisation in the attainment of its objective to educate the public on the importance and relevance of public relations to organisations and society at large. In delivering on this objective, our Student Ambassadors will hone foundational PR skills that will help them thrive in entry-level PR roles’. 

The NTA Television College edition of the PR Students on Campus Summit had two exceptional Public Relations professionals share their PR journey. Blessing Oduniyi, the communications officer at Punch Media Foundation, and Edose Eromosele, the Communications Strategist at Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution PLC

“You can never stop learning, and volunteering is key for any PR professional aiming to succeed in the ever-evolving PR landscape,” said Blessing Oduniyi. She encouraged the students to be intentional about their growth, define their value proposition, document their journey, join professional bodies, obtain certifications, and build meaningful relationships and personal brands. She also urged undergraduates to apply for global opportunities with confidence and to learn how to position themselves effectively for opportunities.

Edose Eromosele emphasised that to gain experience and competence, students must put in the effort. She advised them to participate in internships, volunteer opportunities, networking, and seek mentorship from PR professionals or organisations like Nigerian Women in PR. Eromosele also outlined key skills every PR professional should master, including research, writing, communication, stakeholder management, crisis management, community management, and creativity.

Nigerian Women in PR, established in 2019, is an independent social impact organisation created to build a robust network of practising and aspiring female public relations professionals of Nigerian descent. Its aim is to support, inspire and empower these professionals while improving access to career advancing opportunities.
